Zinc Stearate [CH3(CH2)16COO]2Zn is a white powder. It is insoluble in water, but dissolves well in aromatic compounds such as benzene and chlorinated hydrocarbons on heating. In fact, zinc stearate repels water (hydrophobic). These are stearic acid zinc salts. It is insoluble in alcohol and ether. It is a very powerful mold resease agent. Zinc stearate does not contain any electrolytes.
